i hope you’re enjoying your 3-day weekend! here in the United States and Canada, today is Labor Day so it’s a day off for the majority of the workforce. but all the shops and restaurants are still open. i’ve been seeing so many sales that it’s driving me crazy since i’m doing Shop Your Stash September. one day down and i didn’t buy any makeup or nail polish. yay, me! but today we have to go to the grocery store and i must stay away from the makeup aisles!
today’s Mani Mondays theme is Back to School. i chose my high school colors which are black and gold. for the black, i used Wet n Wild megalast in Lights Out (you can find this color at Dollar General). for the gold, i used an old ULTA professional polish (in the square bottles) called Lotsa Luxe. i actually used a different gold color but it wasn’t yellow enough. i don’t think this ULTA polish is yellow enough either, but it’ll do.
for the gold glitter, i am using one of the new Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear limited edition glitters in the newest collection called Rent the Runway (i believe). i only picked up 3 before the end of August and this one is called Spark in the Dark. there is actually a gold glitter in the collection, but this one is in a tinted base. i have other gold glitter top coats (and some that work on their own) but they are more dense and i really wanted the black polish underneath to show.
the only thing that didn’t really work for me was the Kiss fine art pen. this one was in black and i bought it a couple of years ago from Walgreens. it also came with another color but i can’t remember which one it was. when i used this pen to write on top of the gold polish, it kind of went on patchy. i had to go over the letters and numbers a few times. when i sealed it with the top coat, it smeared. it could’ve been the top coat itself because it’s probably not the greatest one to use, but i’m still new to nail art so i’m still experimenting with what top coats work best in my collection. so to fix the smears, i just grabbed the smallest dotting tool i had and dipped it back in the black to go over it once more. and yes, i did graduate high school in 1993! my 20-year reunion was in April, but i didn’t go. i just didn’t feel like it. but i did go to my 10-year reunion in 2003 and that was a lot of fun!
next week’s theme is Favorite Red. so many to choose from! thanks for stopping by! XOXO Kathleen
